André Bréand/RepliCub offers a bundle of homebuilders plans for reproduction of the famous aircraft developed and built by Piper Aircraft Corp. an american company, during the years 1938-1947. The first of them is the BA-3 Ruby a J-3 Cub replica. Once built, your Ruby will be available in three finishes: J-3 Cub civilian aircraft, PA-11 Cub Special and a military version : L-4A (O-59).

In parallel, André Bréand also offers a "Light" version of his Ruby that meets French ULM Class 3 regulation as the BA-8 Ruby UL, a replica of the Piper PA-15/17, as the BA-17 Travel, and finaly a replica of the PA-18 Super Cub named BA-4/5 Super Ruby.

These upgraded assembly drawings, designed and drawn by André Bréand, allow the construction under the Restricted Certificate of Airworthiness of Aircraft (CNRA) and the Experimental US category and upgraded to exact replicas of these devices some structural elements that have been adapted to the needs of amateur construction and modern materials. This is the case of the wing ribs which are built of wood, not in aluminium alloy as the case of industrially produced devices. This is also the case of some parts used in the structure of the fuselage and wings, which have been simplified.

These replicas can also integrate some original parts or structural elements still produced by U.S. manufacturers. For example, the ailerons and rudders are made like the original euipment and are therefore interchangeable.

To better "stick" to the amateur-built regulation, the choice of materials has also been standardized. It is often difficult today to buy steel and light alloy used in 1940 era !

Metal construction with welded steel tubing and aluminum alloy fabric-covered uses of steels and alloys as well as modern light alloy and wood components at speeds easily supply of materials in specialized distributors whose addresses are provided in the manual and in the "Links" section of this web site.

The BA-3 Ruby, which is an exact Piper J-3 Cub replica, a tandem two-seater with which many drivers have been patented. Once constructed it can be decorated in the finish Scout, which is a replica of the single-engine observation and liaison aircraft L-4 Grasshopper used by U.S. army forces during the Second World War, special Ruby finish, which is the Piper PA-11 Cub Special, slightly modernized version of the Cub, with closed cowling and various improvements.

These replicas inherit the excellent flying and handling qualities like the original aircraft and can be powered from 65 to 100 hp. The use of modern materials giving them greater structural strength. Continental Motors A-65, C-90 and O-200 can be installed on these cells. There are also plans to motorize these aircraft with modern engines like Rotax 912 and 914, Jabiru 2200, and the new UL260i ULPower engine that runs 82 hp at 2800 rpm and 95 hp at 3300 rpm. The BA-3 Ruby being manufactured at the IUT's Tremblay will probably be powered by a Jabiru 2200 motor developing 80 hp.

Finally, in the interest of modernism and ease of construction, these devices can be fully covered with modern materials such as Diatex 2000, Ceconite or Poly-Fiber.

Note : We draw your attention to the fact that the construction drawings created and designed by André Bréand/RepliCub are by no means original drawings from Piper Aircraft designer and RepliCub unrelated U.S. manufacturer or any other company distributing construction plans and genuine parts or remanufactured Piper Aircraft. These bundles of plans that allow the construction of replicas were designed and drawn on the basis of original documents.
